Dayday

How a 10-year old made a video...

Hallo, I am Joshua and just back from holidays in the Philippines.

I was visiting my aunt. My aunt works for an organization that helps poor and sick children.

In the Philippines I met a girl. Her name is Ginnelyn Cabaliza, but most people call her Dayday. When she was 9 months old, she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, but her parents could not afford the operation. She lives in a place called Happyland. A district that was originally called Hapilan, which comes from the Visayan dialect and means “smelly trash” or “dumpsite”.

It is the biggest slum of Manila where the poorest of the poor live. She never leaves the room that she shares with her whole family. She loves balloons and old watches. When we visit her, she is always in a good mood.

That is why I would like to organize a fundraiser to be able to buy a wheelchair.

For that I need your help!

Thank you!

We are so impressed with Joshua´s empathy and ingenuity! odoVita reached out to a rehabilitation pediatrician and a physical therapist to support Dayday and learned that due to her lying down her entire life, she cannot safely sit upright in a wheelchair. When Joshua heard this, he immediately put his creativity to work and designed a construction to help Dayday achieve an upright position. You can see his thoughtful drawing in the gallery below!

Together, Dayday, her family, Joshua and the health professionals agreed that an electric bed would be the best solution. This bed will allow Dayday to elevate her upper body independently while lying down, giving her more comfort and autonomy. Next to her love for balloons and old watches, Dayday enjoys drawing. Her new bed will make it much easier and more comfortable for her to pursue this passion.

THANK YOU JOSHUA!!
